About DR.Lenin Babu


Dr. Lenin Babu, born to Mr.Vinayagam & Mrs.Mohanambal and hailing from the little hamlet of Sirumugai near Coimbatore, Dr. Lenin Babu did his schooling from SIV Matriculation School and won the Gold Medal for being the district topper in + 2 during the year 1987. Apart from academics, he was an outstanding athelete in various sports and track & field events at school.

He did his MBBS from Stanley Medical College in Chennai and later DOrtho for one year at Bellary Medical College in Karnataka. Excellent ranking in the All India Entrance Exams got him a MSOrtho seat at the premier MGM Medical College in Indore (MP) in 1996 where he had the opportunity to work under Professor Dr. D K Taneja, one of the doyens of Indian Orthopaedics. He was awarded the Prof. B Mukhopadhyaya Gold Medal for the best outgoing student in MSOrtho.

His appetite for further learning took him to England in 2000 where for the next 10 years he worked at various hospitals throughout the country (Ashford, Canterbury, Bristol, Manchester, Sheffield, Wolverhampton) under different consultants gaining wide knowledge in the field of Trauma, Joint Replacement and Arthroscopy. Starting his life as a SHO in Ashford, he worked as a Senior SHO in Bristol before getting a Registrar job in Manchester where he successfully completed his FRCSOrtho. He was one of the very few Indian doctors to get into a dedicated one year International Fellowship in Paediatric Orthopaedics at the world famous Sheffield Children’s Hospital which he successfully completed in 2008. He then worked as a Consultant for almost a year at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton before returning to India in 2009.

Since his return, Dr Lenin Babu has been working as a Consultant in our hospital where he has been doing a wide variety of complex trauma, joint replacement and arthroscopic surgeries with special interest in paediatric orthopaedics. He is quite proficient in doing surgeries for conditions like Cerebral Palsy, Congenital Dislocation of Hip (Pelvic osteotomies), Ponsetti treatment for Club Feet, Hemiepiphysiodesis for Genu Valgum-Varum, Limb lengthening for Limb Length Discrepancy, Femoral Osteotomies for Intoeing gaits apart from arthroscopic ACL reconstructions and complex primary and revision joint replacements.

Being a Life member of esteemed organisations like IOA, TNOA, POSI and IMA, he has presented many papers in national and international conferences throughout the world. His articles have been published in various journals and indexed in pubmed.
He has started the project called “From Wheels to Heels” where complex orthopaedic problems and its management are shown in a simplified video format to the general public to allay their fears about surgical management in conditions where conservative measures have failed. As a Rotarian, he is involved in various charity activities going on in the city and nearby villages.
